I’ve been trying something a little different lately. I’ve been watching what I allow into my house. And my mind.
We cancelled our cable TV at the very beginning of Covid, but we were never really big on watching the news anyways. My children have seen the news at my parents house, and it actually causes them to lose sleep, so we purposely don’t turn it on.
But this week, I’ve also decided that if I turn on the TV (we still have streaming), that it would be for something uplifting. I didn’t want to just zone out of the world for a little while, I wanted to actually pursue God, even in my TV watching.
I discovered that YouTube has Christian music video playlists. What a game changer this is turning out to be.
I not sure if your household is the same as mind, but as soon as we press power on that big shiny screen, we all sort of become zombies. Kids included.
This week, with worship songs playing, my kids are watching and singing along. They are lifting their arms up. They are learning new songs.
They aren’t just zombies, watching cartoon characters.
Maybe this week, even if you don’t have a TV, you could find an inspiring playlist. And in those times where you are tempted to tune out the world, you could instead turn in to God. He’s the only one who can truly offer us that peace we’re seeking anyways.
And in making that choice, maybe we can break some of those habits that were never really serving us anyways.
Heavenly Father, I love that you give us choices. I know that I have a bad habit of choosing unwisely. Today I ask that you would work on me, to help me make better choices. To take control of what I’m letting in, and sheltering my heart so there is more room for you, and less room for the world. I pray that looking for you would become such a habit, that I can’t help but feel your presence each and every day. In faith I pray. Amen.
